Depression Treatment by My Psychologist
We understand depression and are very experienced in providing depression treatment.
People believe that being depressed means to be feeling sad, ‘blue’ or downhearted. Feelings such as sadness or the ‘blues’ are generally brief in duration and do not have a significant impact on our activities of daily living. Clinical depression is generally longer lasting and has more negative impact on a person’s day-to-day life.
Think of a person’s depression as a combination of that person’s tolerance to stressors or pressures and their biological vulnerability to depression. Some of us have a greater tolerance to stressors and others of us do not. Some of us have a greater biological vulnerability to developing depression. Each person’s presentation of depression will be unique to them.
Symptoms of clinical depression can include:
- Loss of interest in pleasurable activities
- Changes in sleeping pattern
- Changes in appetite
- Fatigue
- Concentration difficulties
- Reduced sexual interest
- Lowered self worth
- Suicidal ideation
If you have any of the above symptoms and they persist for more than a two week period and there is an impact on your ability to manage home, study or work then it is important that you seek professional assistance.
Having effective treatment to manage depression will help you get back on track.
Through Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) My Psychologist will show clients how their thinking affects their mood and teach them how to think in a less negative way about life and themselves. Critical, negative and pessimistic thinking will be replaced by helpful, positive and optimistic thinking.
Medication may need to be prescribed by a doctor. My Psychologist works collaboratively and closely with medical practitioners to provide quality and effective depression treatment.
We also will help clients plan exercise, review their nutrition and reduce their stress. We provide a holistic approach to help you remove the black dog in your life.
